I Have a Dream: Our CPD Office is the Cornerstone for Value Creation in the Healthcare System (O035)

Synopsis

This highly interactive workshop is addressed to CME/CPD leaders who want to increase the CME/ CPD office’s value for both its own institution and society. Following this activity, participants will be able to visualize how they can change the focus of their own CPD Office from making profit to enhancing healthcare system outcomes, and be more strategic and efficient in helping healthcare professionals maintaining and improving their competencies and performance.

Purpose

This workshop is addressed to CME/CPD leaders who want to enhance their CME/CPD office’s value for both its own institution and society. Knowledge has become a prime source of wealth in our societies and healthcare is all about knowledge. Healthcare systems’ (HS) outcomes highly depend on healthcare professionals’ competencies and performance, and HS improvements, on knowledge translation efficiency. The Value Creation Center (VCC) model helps leaders focus on societal needs when developing the CME/CPD office’s strategic plan in order to improve its contribution to knowledge translation within a particular HS. VCCs are more strategic and efficient in helping professionals maintaining and improving their competencies and performance. VCCs integrate CPD in a system that creates value for society.

Format

This workshop will use didactic presentations, case studies and small and large group discussions.

Expected outcomes for participants

At the end of this activity, participants will be able to explain the benefits of changing the focus of their own CME/CPD Office from making profit to enhancing HS outcomes. They should be able to explain how value is created in the healthcare system, describe the contribution of their own office to HS value creation, visualize how organizational capacities and management could be improved in order to increase the office’s contribution to the HS, and identify which strategic partnerships need to be developed in order to maximize the impact of their office’s activities on the HS, and its value for its own organization and society.
