Aligning CPD Office Outcomes to the Creation of Value for the Healthcare System and Society (P020)

Purpose

For knowledge intensive organizations such as a CPD office, we present an approach for the development of a strategy that fosters the creation of value for the healthcare system and society.

Methods

A process for the selection of a healthcare value stream responding to specific gaps and physician needs was developed. It is translated into a strategic map aligned with a balance scorecard that fosters the creation of value. The approach is to understand the changing context of CPD, to determine a vision and strategic objectives, to act on a plan of action that allows seizing opportunities, and to evaluate the actions.

Results

This process is an instrument of vision, governance and management. The CPD strategy translated into a business plan is incorporated in a strategic map and a balanced scorecard which tracks the evolution of the overall strategy. A strategic radar continuously updates the business plan and key indicators are identified to ensure the quality of execution and adjustment accordingly.

Conclusion

The CPD office of Médecins francophones du Canada, a knowledge-based association, focuses on creating value for the physicians, the healthcare system and society. Its strategic process provides new insights into value creation and future value potential for the healthcare system and society.
