Implementing mLearning: Crafting a Mobile Learning Strategy for Non-Profit CME Societies (O005)

Daniel Klosterman, Ed.M. (American Society for Clinical Pathology); Eric Parks, Ph.D (American Society for Clinical Pathology)

Leveraging a case study approach this session will describe in detail the step-by-step process of designing, developing, and deploying a CME mobile learning strategy.

The membership of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) has requested mobile solutions for ASCP education and services. As a result, various departments had been developing competing proposals for mobile solutions, each applying for the limited resources of the society. These initiatives lacked cohesion, a comprehensive understanding of member mobile needs, and a coordinated strategy.

The goal of this project was to research, design and deploy a comprehensive mobile solution built on an understanding of member needs, the unique challenges associated with mobile devices and the application of best practices in mobile continuing education.

By conducting audience surveys as well as research into the subject of mobile learning a clear direction for the society began to emerge. Stakeholder input was solicited, identifying over 20 potential mobile projects. Utilizing a decision matrix, ASCP leadership identified the top 10 mobile learning solutions.
