Mentoring has been acknowledged as a catalyst to successful and satisfying careers in medicine. Advantages to the medical mentees include establishing oneself faster in a new social and learning environment, faster acquisition of knowledge and skills, and development of attitudes and behaviour appropriate to the circumstances.

Objectives

1) Discuss the evidence about the prevalence of mentorship and its effect on career development for physicians in practice; 2) List factors for establishing of sucessful mentoring relationships.
